Royal Exchange sketch

As part of my “grand master plan” and following in the footsteps of those that have gone before I’ve started off learning a bit of painting.
As a fan of “urban sketching” and feeling inspired by all those who do it with watercolours over the top inked drawings I thought I’d give it a bash.
At some point I’d like to be in a situation where I can paint on-site but until I learn how to mix colours, how to properly handle a brush, etc. then I may as well do the lines on-site and add the colours back home. . .
I have added paint over the top of an ink drawing once or twice before but this was the first time over the top of one of my “urban sketches”.  The Moleskine sketchpad didn’t handle the water content that well and produced a speckly effect, however as I was painting stone pillars it actually turned out to add an interesting effect.
Looking forward to doing more of these, and also loosening up a lot more.  It’s still looking quite formal and certainly took way longer than it should do for this style of drawing.
