F1 World Champion in 1976.
That statistic though tells nothing of the man or his story, he was one of, if not the most, colourful characters ever in formula one.
He drank heavily, smoked 40 cigarettes a day, occasionally took drugs, had a madcap social life and a succession of beautiful girlfriends.
Twice he was voted the least liked driver and despairing members of the Formula One establishment accused him of bringing the sport into disrepute. However he was also hugely popular with the public.
His battle with Niki Lauda (see my previous F1 portrait post) is one of the true folklore stories of F1.
