Beauty from a bit of burnt wood 🇫🇷💒

🇫🇷 J’ai utilisé du fusain pour dessiner la cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris. Quelque chose de beau dans du bois brûlé, ressuscité de ses cendres.

OK, back to the English – I drew this in charcoal which seemed rather apt given the recent tragedy of this magnificent building burning up.

It’s been a very long while since I’ve tried drawing with this messy medium – most of the challenge is in keeping the white bits clean.

It was quite nice to do something the complete opposite of my attempts to learn to draw on the iPad. From the most modern medium to surely the oldest, the cavemen must’ve been drawing with burnt wood before discovering the joys of using crushed berries or ochre and umber.

Perhaps something magnificent will rise again from the ashes. J’espère !! Vivre Notre Dame!!

I’ve actually been fairly efficient for once and remembered to upload this into my Etsy shop (linked on the left in Sales) as an art print.

Thanks for looking, Steve
