Darkling Beetle

Inktober prompt – freeze

Engineers have adapted the design of micro-sized grooves and bumps on the Namib Desert beetle (aka Darkling beetle) to keep critical components freeze-free, such as on bridges and aircraft components.

If you’re looking for a design answer to an engineering problem then there may be a chance that Mother Nature found the solution millions of years ago.

I drew this with a Hero Fude fountain pen filled with Winsor and Newton purple ink, it’s on Canson 1557 180gsm bright white heavy paper.
